Ode to a Cupcake
Cake has quite an interesting origin. The first documented evidence of this delightful pastry dates back to ancient Macedonia.
In 1200 B.C.E. during the reign of Alexander the Great, the birth of the world's greatest creation came into existence. While Alexander
was cutting a swathe of Europe and Asia minor into his empires, his troops desperately needed a substance that was chalked full of calories
and could remain edible over long periods of time.
Alexander gave this assignment to his most senior chef, Theolonius Scrumptulesence. Scrumptulesence realized that adding an inordinate amount
of sugar to a mixture of flour and eggs baked in a wooden oven and topped with a light sugary frosting would satisfy Alexander's requirements.
This creation could be easily packed and carried and wouldn't spoil for many weeks. Soldiers found this invention so astounding that it replaced their salary of salt and leather sandals. If a battalion of soldiers were
successful in battle, Alexander would indulge his troops with a raspberry cream-filled frosting cake.
Simply Amazing!
A little known fact, the first cake created by Theolonius was chocolate with a whipcream based frosting.
